Capoeira arrived in Brazil with enslaved West Africans, who folded fighting, music, and ritual into something that could be practised in plain sight, disguised as dance. Centuries later, that same circle — the roda — is still where everything happens: the game, the singing, the teaching, the watching.
At Olorum, we've kept that structure close. In every class opens and every student, regardless of level, have the opportunity to learn and play. Beginners learn by watching as much as by doing, and the community around the roda is as much a part of training as the movement itself.
We train across three venues in East and North London, three times a week. Some of our students have been training for over a decade. Others walked in last month. Both are welcome in the same class.
